Chamber of Commerce calls for inquiry
In related news, the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry has commented on the controversy over citizenship. In a statement released today, the Chamber said “the recent scandal makes a mockery of the constitution”, and strongly condemned any attempt to circumvent the laws of Belize. The organisation went on to call on the Prime Minister to order an independent commission of inquiry into the matter, headed by the Auditor General an including the Ombudsman. Since the release on Tuesday, summarising its own investigation, nothing has been heard from government on the matter. Rumours have circulated of an impending Cabinet reshuffle on Tuesday, but party insiders point out that scandal-tainted Minister of Home Affairs Max Samuels is too strong a Said Musa loyalist to be fired from his job.
