Cabinet approves “hanging amendment”
The land at Bel-China was not the only point of compromise reached this week. Responding to an Opposition initiative, Cabinet on Tuesday agreed to draft a constitutional amendment that would place restrictions on the jurisdiction of the Privy Council as the court of last resort in certain criminal matters. The intent is to restore the practice of hanging as punishment for murder.
