San Cas U.B. shuts down Kaus in game 1 of playoffs
James Adderley
Good evening, I’m James Adderley and welcome aboard this ride on Sports Monday. The long awaited and much anticipated Capital Life basketball playoffs got underway Friday night at the City Centre, as the number one seed, San Cas U.B., played host to the number four seed, Kaus of Corozal.
There’s a lot riding on game one of this three-game semi-final basketball series and the American import displays his grasp of the situation.
But Corozal has its share of U.S. journeymen too, and 3 is the order being served up people. And then Kirk “Shabba” Smith says, wanna see my left hand? Yeah Kirk, it looks good. Corozal comes right back with more inside play and nevertheless folks, its U.B. up by 9 in early first half action.
Of course the Santino’s team stays in tune. Jeff Clinton, most likely the league’s MVP, gets busy.
U.B.’s big man says, I’ve got a highlight for all my little fans out there, as he hammers the pill home. Corozal comes right back with long range thunder. And yes, you’ve got form my man.
Reggie Elliot then carves up the Corozal defence on this press for 2 U.B. points. At the other end, Clinton Fuller rises for 3 more U.B. points.
However, Kaus comes right back with a 3 of its own, while downcourt Jeff Clinton now looks to big man Kevin Shand and he abuses the rim…And at the half we’re at 47 point apiece.
Unfortunately, Friday night’s showdown descended into a tale of two halves despite Corozal’s coming up with this big 3-point bucket to open things up.
We say that because second half belonged totally to the U.B. professors–starting with this uncontested 2 for Clinton Fuller.
I guess Kevin Seroki only forced this move because the other Kevin was backing him up-and yeah, Shand makes its good for 2.
Meanwhile, let’s set the stage for the second half blowout. Kirk Smith delivers here to give Corozal a 5-point deficit with some 15 minutes to go. Now watch Reggie Elliot catch and shoot for a big baseline 3. The lead has ballooned to 15.
Take him to school and the U.B. player does just that. San Cas U.B. goes on to grab game one in a 94-78 final score.
Corozal Kaus must win game two Wednesday night at the City Centre to force a decisive game three.
Meanwhile, the other semi-final series saw the Raiders grab a one 100-93 win Saturday night over O.W. Music Centre at the People’s Stadium. Game 2 comes up Friday night at the City Centre. If the Orange Walk team cannot muster a W then it’s curtains.
Turning to the Harrison Parks Cricket Championship, we take you to scenic Burrell Boom for the decisive game three between Wicked 11 of Flower’s Bank and Sunrise of Lord’s Bank.
It’s the Wicked ones batting first and wrack this swing up for 4. Chalk up 4 more runs as this batsman swings and delivers. Naturally, with the championship on the line, Flower’s Bank runs at every opportunity as demonstrated right here.
Likewise, Sunrise is not about to donate any runs, and the outfield catches out this swing. Again it’s an easy out for Sunrise of Lord’s Bank on this infield pop up.
And then Broaster the master bowler truly embarrasses this batsman by wickedly blowing away his wicket. Here comes the final out of the side–it’s another infield pop up, which is caught. Wicked concludes its offensive stand with 129 runs all out. And then came the threat of rain, so they covered the infield pitch.
Meanwhile folks, before leaving, this Wicked 11 fan guaranteed us that the 129 runs for all out was enough for the championship. Alas, Sunrise of Lord’s Bank came up with 133 runs for only 3 outs in their turn at bat. So Belize rural, get the message, bow-down Sunrise of Lord’s Bank is ruler.
That’s it, we wanna invite you back same time, same place next week. Jah over all, I’m James Adderley.
