CITCO Says Half-Price for Cab Operators
The Belize City Council says it can afford to slash taxi operators’ fee by half because the traffic department’s revenue has gone up by thirty-percent. According to Councilor Allan Pollard, the cab operators are now being charged ten –dollars for each taxi driver – that is ten dollars less than the twenty that was being charged under the previous council. Pollard says it is also about fulfilling their manifesto promise.
Allan Pollard, City Councilor
“Last week we’ve passed a resolution in the Council to slash the current service fee in half, which was twenty dollars per month for each taxi. We slashed that and we brought it down to ten dollars, so the taxi people they really appreciate it, the operators, the drivers, everybody appreciate it. So it’s one stepping stone to getting where we want to be and that’s what we campaigned on the platform. We met with a lot of taxi operators before election and that was the concern from them and we’re happy to address that.”
