Holdup in Duck Run leaves barman wounded
The victim of a shooting in the Cayo District was not so fortunate. Presentacion Chavez, proprietor of a bar in Duck Run Village near Spanish Lookout, was shot in the stomach during the course of a robbery committed by four men on Thursday night. The robbers stole an undetermined amount of money from the bar plus an additional four hundred and twenty dollars from six patrons who were there at the time. After the heist, the foursome stole a grey 1985 GMC pickup from one of the patrons, Jerry Reimer of Spanish Lookout. They had arrived in a taxi stolen earlier that night from Mirto Valdez in San Ignacio. Valdez was hit in the face with the butt of a shotgun, but managed to avoid further injury by escaping from the vehicle after being forced to drive to an area near Bullet Tree. Meanwhile, Chavez was admitted to the San Ignacio Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
