Is the Police Department Investigating a Dangriga Cop?
A teen was grazed by a bullet in Dangriga; the shots were reportedly fired by a police officer—not once, but three times. But the family says that they have not been able to get answers from the department because when the teenager was in the hospital, the same cop who shot him went to take a statement from him. They later found out that the report was never logged in the police system. Today ACP Joseph Myvett was asked if they had any information on this incident.
ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch
“We do not have such information in regards to that, but as soon as we get you will be provided with that information.”
Andrea Polanco
“Are you guys looking into this incident?”
ACP Joseph Myvett
“Yes we are. There are allegations but no official report has been made. And yes there is some information that this did occur but we are still looking to verify whether or not this did occur.”
Andrea Polanco
“Well, because the family said that they – and officer had shot the teen was the one who went to take the statement from him at the hospital – and they found out that it was never logged [in the police system]. And so they went to Belmopan to make a formal complaint – are you able to say if this was indeed done?”
ACP Joseph Myvett
“Well, no, I do not know at this point in time. But as I said, we are following up on it and indeed clarify whether or not that was the case.”
Andrea Polanco
“Sir, the officer they have made the allegation against, is he still on duty at this time?”
ACP Joseph Myvett
“Yes, he is.”
