Barrow seeks a return to hanging
Opposition Leader Dean Barrow has come out strongly for a return to capital punishment and has suggested a constitutional amendment to grease the wheels of justice. In a public letter to Prime Minister Said Musa, Barrow asked the government to prepare a constitutional amendment that would eliminate the Privy Council as the court of last resort for criminal appeals, leaving that function to the existing Court of Appeal. Barrow met with Musa this evening to discuss the matter and a late release from the PM’s office welcomed the Opposition Leader’s contribution, but did not say whether his advice would be acted upon.
