Butane Tank Explodes; 3 Persons Are Hospitalized

Tonight, three persons are the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital after a fire broke out inside a home on the corner of Mopan and Mahogany Streets in Belize City, dangerously close to Brown’s Butane Gas Depot. Around four-thirty this evening, a loud explosion was heard coming from the lower flat of a two-storey concrete house, after which a fire erupted inside the house. Unconfirmed reports are that a butane tank exploded and the blast sent one man and a wooden door as far as thirty feet away.  Reports reaching our newsroom are that the man received extensive burns to the body. Two females, identified as June Tasher and Lisa Santos, were also injured in the blaze. The three were rushed to the hospital for urgent medical treatment.  Fire officials were on the scene and quickly contained the blaze before it spread to the rest of the building.
