1 Man Charged for Murder of Emmanuel Sosa

Thirty-eight-year-old Emmanuel Ivan Sosa was fatally shot back in April at the Pasadita Bar in Ranchito Village. Three months later, twenty-one-year-old George Bednarik has been charged for the murder which occurred in the early hours of April fifteenth.  The owner of the bar was reportedly closing up when a masked man entered the business armed with a sawed-off shotgun in an attempt to rob the proprietor. Sosa intervened, but was shot in the right shoulder and died. Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Myvett provides details.

“The arrest of one George Bednarik, twenty-one-year-old of Ranchito Village, has since been arrested and charged for the murder of Emmanuel Ivan Sosa which occurred in Ranchito Village in April of this year.”

“Are you able to share details of the arrest and how police were able to crack the case?”

 

ACP Joseph Myvett

“Well, it definitely had to do with the investigation and the recording of several statements which pointed to the accused, as well as other evidence that was gathered.”

 

Reporter

“Have police been able to determine why it was that the gentleman was killed?”

 

ACP Joseph Myvett

“So, far a motive has not yet been established.”

 

Reporter

“Do police have a murder weapon identified or a suspected murder weapon identified?”

 

ACP Joseph Myvett

“No. That is not yet in our custody.”

 

In respect of the murder of Eleazar Chan also in Corozal, eighteen-year-old Kevin Perez was arraigned on Wednesday for Chan’s murder.  Perez is one of three persons believed to have been involved in the killing of Chan whose body was found in a hammock wrapped in plastic bags and sealed inside a sofa.  Nineteen-year-old Ronaldo Marin and a fifteen-year-old were charged last week on July fourth for the murder of the forty-two-year-old customs broker.
