Sapna Budhrani Appointed as President of NICH

Sapna Budhrani

The second appointment is also at NICH where there have been mounting concerns about the naming of Sapna Budhrani as the acting president even as she holds the position of Administrator for the National Institute of Culture and History. The complaints involved the lack of oversight since she holds dual positions. Minister Patrick Faber confirmed today that the replacement of the NICH Act is in process and that Budhrani has been appointed as the president.

“It is the president who is really the executive director of the institution. Miss Buhdrani at the time when those criticism were being levied was hired as administrator after Marconi Sosa departed for politics and it was in the absence of the long standing acting president Mister Greg Vernon, who was about to take much vacation leave, that Miss Buhdrani was asked to hold over as acting president. You will be glad to know now that we have decided to appoint her president and so that leaves a vacancy in the administrator position which we hope to fill very shortly. But it is always the president that has the oversight and then answers to the board of NICH so it is not what you say. In fact when Mister Vernon was acting as president, he was also the Director of ICA, which is the Institute of Creative Arts. So you could have had the same argument if you will and nobody levied that criticism. Listen, Miss Buhdrani is a lady who is very competent. She is a no nonsense person and so she tries her best to do the right thing there and when it comes to that, that might be ruffling some feathers. I stand firmly with her decisions as long as the decisions are right-footed. And I am understanding that there might be people who are trying to undermine things and we are working to resolve that.”
