San Pedro Police Make Quick Arrest in Portofino Burglary
The Portofino Resort on north Ambergris Caye was burglarized in the early hours of Sunday morning by someone who broke into the main office and made off with a pair of safes. Inside the money box was sixteen thousand dollars in both U.S. and Belize currencies. According to thirty-one-year-old Raul Rodriguez, the thief also stole a cash pan, as well as a cell phone. Quick police work, says Assistant Superintendent Alejandro Cowo, led to an arrest and the recovery of some of the monies stolen.

“Yesterday, San Pedro police reported to a burglary at Portofino which is six miles and a half north of San Pedro. It is an area where most of these resorts are located which is at a distance from the main town, making it vulnerable to many businesses there, especially we have heard of the recent incidents involving other businesses that have been robbed and are being burglarized. But as a result, police responded to that location and they spoke to the manager, Mr. Raul Rodriguez who had reported that sometime Sunday morning between one and two a.m., the main office of Portofino was burglarized and stolen from there were two safes containing a total of sixteen thousand dollars in currency. Police visited the area, it was processed and quick police response led to the detention of a male person who lives in the nearby area where a total of nine thousand dollars was recovered, suspected to be the ones that were stolen from the safe. Also, the safe were found from the location where the guy was detained.”
