Belizeans can visit Q. Roo without visa…
Belizeans are now able to travel throughout the state of Quintana Roo without having to wait in long lines for a Mexican visa. This is thanks to the expansion of the “Forma Migratoria de Visitante Local”, which came into circulation three years ago. The card, which once limited travel only to Chetumal, has been extended to include up to three days anywhere in Quintana Roo, including the tourist mecca of Cancun. Mexico’s Secretary of Home Affairs Santiago Creel met on Friday with Max Samuels, Belize’s Home Affairs Minister, to discuss bilateral matters, among them, the visitors card.
Max Samuels, Min. of Home Affairs
“A card system whereby Belizeans from the frontier areas of Belize will be able to travel not only to Chetumal on that card, but also to the entire state of Quintana Roo. That’s what it’s about in a nutshell. It means that Belizeans in the border areas, Corozal and the surrounding villages, need only to access this card which will enable them to travel extensively to Chetumal and within Quintana Roo.”
Belizeans fifteen years and older can apply for the visitors card at the Mexican Embassy in Belize City. All they need is their Belizean passport. If you wish to stay in Quintana Roo longer than three days you will need to apply for a Mexican visa. So far, over fourteen thousand Belizeans are using their card to visit Chetumal.
