Belize Da Fi Wi – Now & Forever, 8867
A national theme for this year’s September Celebrations has been chosen and the winner of the annual competition hails from Corozal Town. In commemoration of the two hundred and twentieth Anniversary of the Battle of St. George’s Caye and the thirty-seventh anniversary of Belize’s Independence, the National Celebration Commission has chosen a theme submitted by Fernanda Tun. “Belize Da Fi Wi – Now and Forever, 8867” was one of almost two hundred submissions in the 2018 competition. Not only does Tun get to take home a thousand-dollar cash prize, she is also an honorary guest to all official ceremonies this September.

“Now talk to us about the criteria. What was it that you guys were looking for?”
Neil Hall
“Well, of course we had to make sure that it’s something for Belizeans. So if you are a Belizean here in country or in the Diaspora, you are free to enter the competition itself. Your theme must have ten words, no more. It can be less of course. In terms of what we’re looking for, we’re looking for something that stirs patriotism, nationalism and is current.”

“Now what is it that this person takes away? As I understand there’s a cash prize and all of that.”
Neil Hall
“Yes, Ms. Tun, our winner, is going to receive a thousand dollar cash prize, as well as being an official invitee to all of the official September Celebrations events.”
Persons were encouraged to enter the competition with multiple entries which should be no more than ten words.
