Toy Gun Used to Rob Tortilla Factory in King’s Park, Belize City

Hours later, another robbery occurred at a popular tortilla factory in the King’s Park area; and fortunately, several persons have since been detained. Forty-seven-year-old Maureen Lainfiesta, the cashier at Cortez Tortilla Factory on ‘C’ Street in Belize City, was held up by two men with rags over their faces; one of the perps was armed with a handgun, which police would later discover was a toy gun.  Three minors and a taxi operator have since been detained and the loot was recovered not too far away from the crime scene. ASP Alejandro Cowo says the imitation gun, suspected to have been used in the robbery, was found in the taxi.

“Sometime in the evening, Miss Maureen Lainfiesta, a forty-seven-year-old Belizean cashier. While she was behind the counter of the tortilla factory, two male persons jumped the counter and demanded that she hand over the day’s sales. One of them was armed with a knife and the other with what appeared to be a firearm. Fearing for her life, she handed over a cash register and her cell phone. The register contained sixteen dollars and forty cents and her cell phone is valued at eight hundred and fifty dollars. The two male persons then made good their escape. Quick police response in the area led to the detention of three minors and also a taxi was intercepted in the immediate area where police conducted a search in the taxi and found an imitation firearm suspect to have been used in the robbery. Also a cell phone and the cash register were found just a couple of yards from the tortilla factor.”
