1 Man Detained for Eric Tillett Shooting
Twenty-six-year-old Eric Tillett narrowly escaped grave injury on Tuesday night when a gunman pounced on him while heading home on Gill Street. According to police, Tillett and his girlfriend were riding a motorcycle when they were ambushed by a lone gunman. A single shot was fired in their direction, hitting Tillett in the right foot. The construction worker was targeted by someone who reportedly waylaid him in the nearby bushes adjacent to his house. Despite the proximity of a police checkpoint, the incident happened out of view of the officers stationed at the spot check. One suspect, says Deputy Commissioner of Police Chester Williams, has since been taken into police custody.

“With that particular incident, the suspect, there is a bushy lot and the suspect was waiting in the bushes and when the victim and his girlfriend came home on a motorcycle, he came out of the bushes and he fired one shot, hitting the victim Mr. Tillett in his foot. So although the police were on the street, they were more up and it was not possible for them to have been able to see the area where the shooting occurred. So we have made adjustments to be able to mend that situation.”

“I know that, or I am told, that the suspect for the Tillett shooting is a minor who happens to be the sibling of a police officer. Is that person being sought, has that person been apprehended and is there any suspect detained for the baby Etana?”

“We do have the suspect in respect to Mr. Tillett’s shooting in custody and we also have a suspect detained in respect to the child’s murder. But again, having the suspects detained is not sufficient. We need to be able to have the relevant evidence to be able to effect arrests in respect of those matters and so we’re working on those to see if we’ll be able to get persons who can come forward and tell us what they may have seen occurred on those two nights in question, respectively.”
