Cuban artist exhibits at Mexican centre

If you’re looking for a way to take your mind off the stress of everyday life, you might find some welcomed solace viewing the masterful strokes of paint on canvass. On Tuesday night, Cuban Artist Manuel Daza launched his latest collection of works. This morning, News 5’s Jacqueline Woods stopped by to see the exhibition.

This is not the first time Belizeans have the opportunity to view the painting of Cuban artist Manuel Daza. But this time art lovers can appreciate Daza’s daring decision to experiment with an array of bright colours on canvass to create a variety of expressions.

The Daza exhibition is the result of the efforts of the Mexican embassy over the last few months to work with their counterparts from different parts of Central and South America to display the creative talents of artists.

Daza, who has been living in Belize for the past six years, did the pieces especially for the show. Unfortunately when we visited the exhibition today, Daza had already left for Dangriga where he presently resides. However, Director of the Institute of Co-operation Mexico-Belize, Guillermo Gutierrez, was on hand to give us a tour.

“I think that some persons are not familiar with this kind of expressions, principally abstract. This time the artist decided to explore the possibilities of colour. In the past he principally he worked with lines and figurative expressions, but this time it is an internal exploration through colour.”

The display will be open to the public until July thirty-first. Jacqueline Woods reporting for News 5.

The exhibition is open to the public, free of cost.
