City shooting leaves San Pedro woman injured
Tonight a San Pedro woman is at home recovering from a gunshot wound she received while in Belize City. According to twenty-seven year old Elaine Mejia, a resident of the Boca del Rio area in San Pedro, she was walking on East Canal around 1:00 this morning when she heard a loud noise then felt a searing pain in her back. It was then Mejia realised that she had been shot. Mejia was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for treatment, but according to hospital authorities, she was released earlier today. Police sources tell News 5 that they believe Mejia was not the shooter’s mark, rather, she was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
