Forty-three year old Lyle Price lies in the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital suffering from a fractured skull. Price was attacked by one Marlon Garnett just outside of his Dolphin Street home on Friday around 11:30 p.m. Glenda Price says when she came home that night she found her brother lying unconscious on the floor.

“I’m hoping for the best. I want him to recover because lately we had a terrible accident in the family, just in January with one of my older brothers. He’s not walking good and his wife is still laid up and they lost a son in that, by a fractured skull too.”

It is not certain when Price will recover from his injuries but Glenda says the family is especially upset over the incident because police investigations reveal that her brother was not the intended victim. Price says she understands that Garnett and her neighbours were involved in an earlier argument and later that night, Garnett allegedly came into the neighbourhood to settle the matter.

“They had a fight with him at some club and he came after them with a bat. When he came here, my brother was sitting out there with them and he fired at, I guess at the guy that he had something with, he had and caught my brother in his head instead.”

Price says when her brother was first taken to the K.H.M.H., the doctor on duty told her that the injury was not serious and that she can take him home. But on Saturday, Price says when her brother did not get out of bed, she knew something was terribly wrong.

“They said nothing was wrong with him, that he just had a little guava on his head. Because he was drunk they said take him home and give him a lot of water. We brought him back home and I put him to sleep and the next day, he did not get up. He was lying all day in his vomit, urine, everything and I couldn’t get him up. So we called back the ambulance and we took him back again at the hospital.”

A CAT scan showed that Price had suffered a serious blow to the head and was operated on that Saturday night.

“What is Lyle’s present condition?”

Glenda Price

“Well right now he is stable. He is not doing anything much. We talk to him and he would just say hmmm, hmmm. He’s not talking yet. But I guess he will be okay.”

Marlon Garnett, who has since confessed to the crime, told police that he did not intend to hit Price, but he wanted to hurt one David Rodriguez who he claims stabbed him with a knife at the club.

“But everybody is upset because my little brother does not interfere with anybody he’s quiet guy. He drinks his rum and that’s it and he goes to sleep.”

Garnett has been charged with attempted murder, dangerous harm and deadly means of harm.
