Arthur Saldivar Launches News Lawsuit against P.U.P.

Attorney Arthur Saldviar has launched a second lawsuit against the People’s United Party. Saldivar’s application to contest the P.U.P.’s Belmopan Convention was turned down twice. In the first instance, his application was not accepted by the Vetting Committee because he was on a two-year suspension. Saldivar filed an application for an interim injunction to halt the P.U.P. from holding its convention which it later postponed for the end of August. In light of Saldivar’s legal challenge, the P.U.P. decided to accept and review his application and invited him to reapply which he did. Saldivar was interviewed by the Vetting Committee which is comprised of Chairperson, Leni-Jo Usher and members, William Stuart, Servulo Baeza and Victor Espat. In a letter dated August second, Saldivar was informed that his application was denied for a number of reasons, including but not limited to his public statements and actions and especially his legal claim against the P.U.P.  According to court documents, Saldivar believes that the Vetting Committee demonstrated bias in reviewing his application. He says that he has lost monies he invested in his campaign. He is asking the court to make several orders including an order to declare that members of the Vetting Committee breached the implied duty to adhere to the principles of natural justice. He is also asking the court to make an order to initiate a fresh process of vetting. Saldivar is requesting the court to order the removal of Usher and Steward from the Vetting Committee. He has hired the services of Attorney Elena Da Silva of Trinidad and Tobago.
