Eugene Henderson Sr. Shot 5 Days After His Son Succumbs to Gunshot Injury

Eugene Henderson Sr.

Forty-four-year-old Eugene Henderson is lucky to have escaped grave injuries when he came under attack by a lone assailant on Wednesday evening.  The shooting incident happened shortly before six p.m. at Henderson’s residence in Lindo’s Alley.  The construction worker was injured in the right arm and chest when the gunman let loose a burst of gunshots in his direction.  The attempt on Henderson’s life comes less than a week after his son, Eugene Junior, succumbed to a single gunshot wound to the head after being shot while visiting with friends and family in Roaring Creek Village several weeks ago.  Assistant Superintendent Alejandro Cowo told the media at a press brief this morning that while the attack on the father appears to be gang-related, the incident is not connected to his son’s murder.

“Last night there were two shooting incidents in Belize City.  The first one happened just about minutes to six.  Mr. Eugene Henderson of 12 Lindo’s Alley was inside of his yard when he was approached by a male person of clear complexion.  As a result, the male person pulled out a firearm and fired several shots in his direction, causing him to receive an injury to the right hand and a graze to the right side of his chest.  He was taken to the hospital where he is still admitted in a stable condition at this moment.”

“Can you establish if it’s coincidence that he has a namesake [as that] of Eugene Henderson Jr. who passed away recently and this individual who was shot yesterday?”

ASP Alejandro Cowo

“He is the father of the deceased.”

“What are your investigations [revealing thus far]?”

ASP Alejandro Cowo

“At this moment we do not believe that it has to do or does not have a link with the murder of his son at Roaring Creek.  This is a separate and isolated incident from the one in Roaring Creek.”

“Is it related to any gang rivalries within that area or was it something personal?”

ASP Alejandro Cowo

“Well, we know that he resides in a gang area and the suspected shooter, we believe is from a rival gang, so we believe it is something that has to do with gangs.”
