3 arrested for separate robberies in the west

Three thieves remain on the run, but police have charged three others believed to be involved in separate robberies in the Cayo District last week. Police say thirty-one year old Ralston Wagner, a resident of Rose Lane in Belize City, was the getaway driver and one of the two men who robbed the joint offices of the Ministry of Works and Department of Transport in Santa Elena. Wagner was positively identified by eyewitnesses and has since been charged with robbery, aggravated assault and keeping unlicensed ammunition. He was detained by police hours after the incident as the bandits attempted to cross a police roadblock on the Western Highway. Wagner has yet to identify his accomplices to the cops.

Meanwhile, two burglars who handed themselves over to police after a shootout left one of their partners dead, have been arrested and charged. Kenyon Lewis, a Hattieville resident and Dennis Young, a resident of Santa Barbara Street, have been charged with burglary and keeping unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Police say Lewis and Young were two of the five people who broke into the offices of the St. John’s Credit Union in the early morning hours of Friday. The cops arrived while the men were still in the building, but instead of ending the confrontation peacefully, the men tried to shoot their way out. One man, now identified as Deon Augustus, a resident of Hattieville, died at the scene from a gunshot wound to the head. During the confusion two others, still unidentified, managed to escape. Anyone with information about them is asked to contact the Police Department.
