Johnny to P.M. – You Broke It, You Must Fix It!

John Briceño

Briceño placed the loan at the front door of the Prime Minister under whose watch the issue lingered before several courts for numerous years and remains unpaid. Briceño made the point that since the government did not intend to pay, it should have not spent all that money on legal fees.

John Briceño, Leader of the Opposition

“There is this saying when you go to the shop- if you break it; you own it and you must fix it.  This ninety-five million-dollar debt, is a U.D.P. debt that was created by our financial genius the P.M., therefore, he and his minions on the other side must fix it.  The P.M. knows he is coming to the end of the line.  Every legal turn he has taken he has lost.  In 2011, the Privy Council ruled that this UHS settlement was legal; the very agreement that the P.M. and the U.D.P. have been screaming was illegal! And who represented Belize? Ambassador Lois Barrow Young. The Bank then took this matter to arbitration, and our financial genius the P.M. decided not to defend Belize.  He sent no one to represent us.  Because of his negligence Belize (all of us, you ministers included) lost.  The P.M. failed to defend Belize! January, 2013 the London Court of International Arbitration Award, issued an award favoring the Belize Bank thirty-six million eight hundred and ninety-five thousand five hundred and nine dollars and forty-six cents plus interest at seventeen percent.  This debt was created in 2013 and who was in government?  Who was in power Madam Speaker?  No other than the financial genius the P.M. and his U.D.P. incompetent government.  He broke it, he owns it, he must fix it!”
