Charges dropped against local drug defendants
Three Belizeans originally among those arrested in Belize’s biggest drug bust, are now free. Liston McCord and his wife Jenny, along with Linda Alamilla, had been charged with drug trafficking after police found three sacks of cocaine in a van registered to Jenny. According to police, the drugs were part of a larger haul of over three thousand pounds of coke found last October in an apartment on the Northern Highway. The charges were dropped this morning in Magistrate’s Court due to lack of evidence. The trial continues, however, against three other defendants: Mexicans Oscar Moreno, Zulema Carrasco and Jorge Carlos Moreno. Jorge Carlos Moreno is also charged with customs violations and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The McCords were defended by attorney Ellis Arnold.
