Diane Haylock to be UDP candidate in Pickstock
A day after the official UDP announcement that Kenny Morgan was being rinsed as standard bearer in the Pickstock Division, it appears that a replacement has been anointed by the party hierarchy. According to reliable sources, that candidate is none other than Diane Haylock. Haylock, a long time community activist associated for many years with SPEAR, has been close to UDP leader Dean Barrow since they were teenagers, but has never before played a high profile role in partisan politics. Word in UDP circles is that while several other potential candidates were interested in running, the party leadership gave the nod to Haylock, who will be named shortly in an endorsing convention. Also said to be considering a run, as an independent, was the 1998 UDP nominee Wilfred “Sedi” Elrington, but it is understood that he will now endorse Haylock. A press conference has been called by the UDP for Wednesday. If confirmed, Haylock would become the only woman out of twenty-nine standard bearers for the UDP.
