Bz. City store robbed overnight

Thieves were also busy in Belize City, as during the heavy rains of Sunday night, a downtown store was burglarised. The criminals are still on the loose and the owners have yet to determine just how much was taken. Jacqueline Woods has the details.

The hangers the thieves removed the clothes from were politely placed and left on top one of the stores showcases; just one indicator that the Ideal Shopping Centre has been burglarised. The robbers, who remain unidentified, gained access to the store by removing a burglar bar and an AC unit and jumping through the window. Once inside the building the robbers did not only steal clothing, but whatever else they could grab in the store including four thousand dollars in cash.

“For one, a lot of women’s bathing suits, we’re looking at men’s clothing, jeans and shirts, gift sets, liquor, cash, standing fans. They just helped themselves to whatever they thought would be of value and easy to resell.”

The thieves stole a set of suitcases to cart away the merchandise. Today members of the Criminal Investigation Branch were at the store collecting evidence that behind by the robbers. It is not known when the break in occurred, but authorities believe the incident may have taken place during the heavy rain on Sunday night.

“Neil is the store’s management looking to beef up security here?”

“Definitely. We already employ security guards for the day work, however, at night we’re looking at installing cameras and of course, we’re looking to patch up the hole.”

The store is offering a reward to anyone who can assist in recovering the stolen items. If you have any information that can lead to the successful return of the goods and the arrest those responsible, you are ask to call 227-2153 or 227-3473. Jacqueline Woods reporting for News 5.

This is the second time that Ideal Shopping Centre has been burglarised.
