PC Garcia Recovering After Pickup Truck Hit Him
While those road traffic incidents were fatal, a police officer is lucky to be alive after a speeding pickup truck hit him during a routine check point in the Red Creek area of Santa Elena. The incident occurred on Friday night around seven o’clock; Police Constable Cruz Garcia was injured by the pickup. It is not known why the driver of the vehicle refused to stop, but ACP Joseph Myvett says the investigators are following several leads since other officers at the checkpoint were unable to see the license plate of the speeding vehicle.
ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch
“A team of police officers were conducting vehicular check point at the Red Creek checkpoint in Santa Elena. Whilst on the checkpoint, a white pickup approached the checkpoint at high speed and one of the officers who was standing in the middle of the highway near the checkpoint sign was hit by the bumper of the vehicle and also during the process, he was hit to the left shoulder by the rear view mirror of the vehicle. So far an intensive investigation has been launched. We are following several leads at this point in time. The constable Cruz Garcia was taken to the San Ignacio Community Hospital where he is listed in a stable condition.”
