Police Corporal’s House Shot Up
On the twentieth night as Belizeans were in a celebratory mood, an attack was made on the San Joaquin house of a Corporal of Police attached to the Corozal Police Station. According to his common-law-wife, around ten p.m., she heard several blasts outside their home, but thought it involved fireworks from the festivities. It was not until the following morning at around eight o’clock that she would discover expended shells and bullet holes on the house. The police corporal was on duty when the incident happened, leaving his family exposed. Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Myvett says that Scenes of Crime Personnel recovered eleven, nine millimetre expended shells. While a motive has not been established, investigators are following several leads.

“She heard several bangs but did not pay much attention to it, however on the twenty-first of September around eight a.m., when she exited her home and went to the street side, she observed a number of expended shells on the street side. As a result, she further examined her home where she saw damages where apparently seven bullets were fired at her home. The scene was processed where eleven-nine millimetre expended shells were found. At the time of the incident her husband was not at home, but was at work. There are several leads which we are following in order to determine what resulted in this incident and who is responsible.”
