Burglary suspect wounded by Cayo cops
We don’t know if San Ignacio police used their newly donated motorcycle to respond so quickly to a call last night, but around 10:45 they managed to arrive at the scene of a burglary just as two suspects were fleeing. According to police, they caught up with one of them, eighteen year old Anwar Awe, as he sought refuge by jumping into a drain. After being ordered to put up his hands and come out, Awe reportedly made a suspicious hand movement. This caused P.C. Mateo Carrillo to shoot him in the leg. Awe remains under guard in stable condition at the San Ignacio Hospital pending charges of burglary. A routine internal inquiry will investigate whether Carrillo was justified in firing. Meanwhile, police are still looking for the second suspect in the burglary.
