San Ignacio Police Investigate Armed Robbery
San Ignacio Police are investigating an armed robbery which occurred on Wednesday afternoon. Delivery man and driver for Vega’s Imports, Ellsworth Martinez told police that he and the two coworkers stopped on Carrillo Puerto Avenue in Santa Elena Town to make a delivery. He and one of his coworkers exited the vehicle and upon returning they are held up by a gunman. The thief made off with three thousand dollars and police have since been unable to capture him. “Upon his return to the vehicle and at the time he was in the process of moving from the area he was approached by a dark skin male person wearing a helmet and dark sunglasses who pointed a weapon towards him and demanded money. As a result one of his coworkers handed over a little over seven t thousand dollars in cash to the person who then made good his escape,. The area was canvassed by police officers; surveillance footage viewed from the area however no u useful information was had. Those persons were later stopped at a check point in Roaring Creek where over fifteen thousand Belize dollars was found on them. They were then taken back to San Ignacio for further investigation however the manager for the company for which they work yesterday visited the station and did an audit of the invoice and found out that the fifteen thousand dollars was accounted for and a total of three thousand dollars was missing.”
