Carmen Zetina is new Police Commissioner
It was confirmed this evening by no less than the Prime Minister that the man who will become Belize’s number one law enforcer is none other than Carmen Zetina. The veteran police officer, currently serving as assistant commissioner, was chosen over a number of candidates to succeed retiring top cop Hughington Williams. Zetina takes over as the Police Department tries to build its image following numerous allegations of brutality, corruption and the widespread–though unsubstantiated–public belief that crime is rising to unprecedented levels.
