A Donation to the Buttonwood Bay Nazarene Primary School Computer Lab
The Buttonwood Bay Nazarene Primary School on Coney Drive in Belize City has been transforming into a model education facility. Aside from expansion works here and there, the institution has also worked on improving its academic performance. As early as May of this year, two hundred and fifty students were registered for the current school and many had to be turned away. Part of its development includes the installation of a computer lab at the school to assist students and teachers and today, they received a donation of six desktop computers from Transparent BPO. News Five’s Duane Moody reports.

The Buttonwood Bay Nazarene Primary School was today the beneficiary of ten desktop computers to further expand its computer lab. The donation was made by Transparent BPO, a call center on Coney Drive for which several members of staff have students enrolled at the school. Recruitment Manager, Audralee Enriquez says that the gift is a way of giving back to the community.

“Transparent BPO is always finding ways to give back to the community so today we are donating ten computer systems to Buttonwood Bay Primary School. And I know people would question how Buttonwood Bay Primary School really affects the development of Transparent BPO. Well if you look at our location, Transparent BPO is located right up the street from Buttonwood Bay Primary School. We have parents that drop their kids off, they would pass our location all the time, they would see our vacancies and currently we do have parents who are employed at Transparent BPO. So what better way for us to give back than to the parents of the students from Buttonwood Bay Primary School.”
The donation comes on the heels of twelve others gifted to the school on Tuesday by the Central Bank of Belize. Together, the computers will assist the teachers with lessons across the different levels.

“We were trying to create a computer lab and we needed the resources so them donating these computers to us is going to be very beneficial because we want the students to learn about technology. This is a technological world that we are living in. Not only will they be able to come and do researches, but it will be a way of preparing them for high school beucase when they go to high school, they need to know how to use these computers. Also, us being a part of a reading programme, we find that through technology most of these students will be able to get information off the computer. They can read stories off the computer and the computer can even assist them with the pronunciation of words if they cannot pronounce the words.”
Vice Principal Avril Arthurs says that all two hundred and fifty students will have access to the computer lab; nobody will be left out. From the Mavis Beacon Programme to Microsoft Office will be installed to assist with the process. Francis Chan, who is the network administrator at Transparent BPO, has three children going to the institution and he says the computers are in excellent condition.
