Four busted for Cayo robbery
Tonight police are still searching for a man believed to be part of a gang of thieves that stole one hundred thousand dollars from a San Ignacio resident. Police say around 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, they were tipped off that there was a robbery taking place at the home of Zane Robinson on Orange Walk Street. When police arrived on the scene, they spotted a blue car with taxi license plates pulling away from the house. The cops gave chase through the town and onto the Western Highway, eventually stopping the car in Esperanza Village. Two of the five people in the car took to the bushes and disappeared into the darkness, but police immediately detained the other three men. In the car, police also found approximately nine thousand, five hundred dollars in cash. Investigations in the daylight led to the detention of one of the young men who had eluded them hours before. The four crooks have been identified as twenty-two year old Kareem Ara, thirty-one year old Craig Morgan and fifty-one year old Alexander Arnold, all of San Ignacio, and eighteen year old Lionel Henry of Ladyville. They have all been charged with aggravated burglary, wounding, conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary, handling stolen property and damage to property. Police say the fifth bandit still on the loose is Dean Augustine of Belize City. According to Zane Robinson, five men entered his home while he was asleep and began to beat him with their guns and demanded money. During the raid, the men found seventy-five thousand dollars in cheques and twenty-five thousand in cash which Robinson, a bill collector for a San Ignacio business, had picked up earlier that day in Belize City. Police now theorise that the men had spotted Robinson in the city and followed him home. Robinson was treated at the San Ignacio Hospital for several cuts and bruises and later released. Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Dean Augustine is asked to contact the nearest police station.
Meanwhile, San Ignacio police have arrested two other men who robbed several tourists at gunpoint. According to reports, two tour guides had taken five tourists on a canoe trip up the Macal River, but in the evening when they returned to the landing near the park in San Ignacio, two men armed with guns held up the group. The men and women handed over an undisclosed amount of cash and the men ran away. But quick work by the cops led to the arrest of two locals for the crime. The men have been identified as twenty-three year old Henry Baptist and nineteen-year-old Randy Blackmore of Santa Elena Town.
