Driver charged in O.W. hit and run
An Orange Walk resident has been charged in connection with a hit and run incident on Saturday. Twenty-six year old Mayola Escalante allegedly fled the scene, near the Mi Amor Hotel, where thirty-three year old Pedro Martinez was knocked down as he crossed the street. Martinez, a Salvadoran, was rushed to the Northern Regional Hospital where he is reported to be in serious condition. Escalante has been charged with negligent grievous harm, failure to stop and render aid, failure to report an accident and driving without due care and attention.
