HelpAge Says Elder Abuse Must Be Addressed

According to Bulwer, the time has come to bring this issue to the attention of the public, as it is also a public health problem, and a legal violation. She says that in order to effectively address the issue a multi-faceted approached must be taken.

“The family has to play through. The neighbors need to support; the community needs to take on its role. The national aid has to be taken on also. It should not be taken on as a political issue. It is a human rights issue. It is a public health issue. It is a judicial issue. So when it comes to older persons issues we want to see it as a national issue where we come together, the relevant entities to address this issue.”
