Corozal Police Investigate Drowning of American Retiree

An American ex-pat died inside a swimming pool at her home on Saturday night in Consejo, Corozal District. Forty-nine-year-old Claire Elizabeth Rigdon was found floating in the pool by her husband who set out in search of her when he realized that she was nowhere to be seen. According to Robley Smith Rigdon, they were socializing earlier in the evening, but he reportedly fell asleep. When he woke up several hours later, he realized that Claire was missing. After searching the property he discovered the lifeless body of his wife floating face down in the swimming pool.

“On Saturday, October 13th, 2018, just after nine p.m., Corozal police visited six miles Consejo Road, the residence of Mr. Robley Rigdon and upon arrival inside of the residence, they observed the naked body of a female who was identified as Claire Elizabeth Rigdon. Initial information that the police received is that earlier in the day both of them were socializing and Mr. Rigdon went to sleep and upon waking up he went looking for his wife and could not find her. He made checks outside of the yard and inside of the house; thereafter he went to the pool where he found her floating. She was pulled out of the pool where he performed CPR; however, she had already died.”

“The body does not have any indication of any foul play, however, we are waiting for a post mortem examination which will be conducted sometime this afternoon.”

“Did you examine the husband as well for any signs of violence against him?”

“Yes. There was no sign of violence on him.”
