Albert Area Rep. to Hold ICJ Educational Forum
As April tenth draws nearer, the discussion on whether to take Guatemala’s claim on Belize to the I.C.J. is intensifying. While the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been tasked to carry out a national wide I.C.J. educational campaign, Area Representation for the Albert Division Tracy Taeger-Panton has organized a forum for her constituents. While Taeger-Panton did not disclose her take, she is asking her constituents to attend the forum.
Tracy Taeger-Panton, Area Rep., Albert Division
“I think this matter is a matter for every Belizean should have the right to vote their conscience on it. It is one of the most important decisions we will make as a country and the more information people have the better they will be able to make a decision that serves the interest on this country well.”
Hipolito Novelo
“I believe you are pro ICJ, right?”
Tracy Taeger-Panton
“I have not stated my opinion publicly because I don’t want to influence the views of my constituency. I think they have a right, I am learning as well. I am still learning. I am still reading, studying so that I can make an informed decision but in my view we have to settle this dispute in a way that is reasonable. And so what is the most reasonable way to settle any dispute is the question we should be asking ourselves.”
The forum is set to take place on Thursday October twenty-fifth at the John and Charles Wesley Center.
