Missing man turns up at KHMH stabbed and robbed

Story Picture
A Belize City businessman is tonight reunited with his family after he had been reported missing since Tuesday. But rather than being a missing persons case, it turns out that the husband and father of four had been stabbed, robbed and only with the help of good samaritans, taken to the K.H.M.H. for treatment. For three days, the traumatised man was unable to get word to his family who had been worried sick about his well being. According to thirty-nine year old Lionel Montoya, a vendor who sells boiled corn on the streets of Belize City, around three-thirty Tuesday afternoon while in the St. Martin’s de Porres area, he was brutally attacked by two men who stole his hard earned cash. Still admitted to ward at the K.H.M.H., Montoya told News 5 his disturbing story.

Lionel Montoya

“I mi di stand da front and I sell lot of corn. When I was coming back, two men come to me and say, “Gi mi yuh money.” First they put a knife to me…”

Ann-Marie Williams

“Stabbed you and then asked for the money?”

Lionel Montoya

“Yeah.”

Ann-Marie Williams

“How much money did you give him?”

Lionel Montoya

“Maybe sixty or fifty-five dollars, just what I sell. The people mi di come and see and the man deh hurry.”

According to Montoya, this is the third time he has been robbed, but the first time he has been injured in an attack. Police have yet to make any arrests.
