Bz. City man arrested for bomb given to Santino
In an update to a strange bombing incident we reported on Tuesday, tonight police say a Belize City man has been charged. According to police, a man identified as Dennis Acosta of a Zericote Street address has been charged with committing a mischievous act. Police press officer G. Michael Reid says Acosta told them that the package was his way of congratulating the Santino’s Cycling team. Based on those preliminary findings, the investigating officers have now ruled out the theory that the stink bomb was part of an attack against the Santino’s cycling team in retaliation for their Holy Saturday Cross Country win over the weekend. On Tuesday, a hand delivered package wrapped in brown paper and addressed to the Santino’s Cycling team from “Prophet of the World” turned out to be a home-made bomb of faeces, urine and chemicals. The package was taken to the proper authorities and members of the B.D.F. bomb squad later detonated the device in an open field. The penalty for a mischievous act is a fine and possible jail time.
