Belize joins regional tourism campaign
Belize is among the participants in an ambitious international marketing project to boost Caribbean tourist arrivals in the wake of September eleventh. The Regional Tourism Emergency Programme, budgeted at over eighteen million U.S. dollars, will use television advertising, public relations and promotional activities to stimulate demand for travel from Europe and North America. The Caribbean Tourism Organisation and Caribbean Hotel Association will join with CARICOM governments in accessing loan funds for the project from the Caribbean Development Bank. Belize’s share of the campaign is just under two hundred thousand U.S. dollars. Caribbean tourism was hit hard by the post September eleventh worldwide travel slowdown, but indications thus far are that Belize has rebounded better than most of our neighbours in the region.
