Wounded policeman tells his story
He was stabbed on Saturday night by a man he had once arrested and today P.C. Nelson Nunez is slowly recovering from his injuries. Nunez had been waiting at the bus stop at the corner of Cemetery Road and Central American Boulevard to get a ride home to Roaring Creek, when a teenager he had busted a year ago walked up to him and drove a knife into his stomach. Despite being in obvious pain at the K.H.M.H., this afternoon the police officer agreed to tell his story to News 5.

“This guy, by the name of Antonio Banner approached me and just stabbed me on the left side of my body.”

“Did he say anything to you?”

“No he neva sey nothing to me.”

“And you recognised him right away?”
P.C. Nelson Nunez
“Immediately I recognised him. I reason how recognised him so quickly was because I was working at Hattieville because I detained him for a burglary at Hattieville Village.
When I get better I will go back to my job, cause I know I neva do the guy nothing bad out of the way or try chance him. I was doing my job to the best of my ability and I deal with him in a fair kind of way. So when I go out there, I will work the same way. I would just like to advise my fellow police officers to be very careful when on and off duty, at all times and thanks very much for their support as well.”
Nunez underwent surgery late Saturday night at the K.H.M.H. and is currently listed as serious but stable. His recovery is expected to take a few weeks.
