Several Persons Detained in Connection with Murder of Jermain Sanker

Jermain Sanker

Investigations continue into the murder of Jermain Sanker. The twenty-three-year-old, who is originally from Corozal, was executed inside a rented car on Cemetery Road in the Salvapan area of Belmopan on Monday afternoon. Several persons were taken into custody today, but during the weekly police press brief this morning, ACP Joseph Myvett confirmed that Sanker was one of five persons involved in a drug bust earlier this year. Back in April, Sanker, David Morrison, Diana Sutherland and Anthony Somerville were severely injured when a pickup truck they were travelling in overturned near mile seventeen on the Philip Goldson Highway.  The driver was trying to get away from the police who set chase after them.  While Somerville died in the accident, Sanker suffered two broken legs and a broken hand.  Back then, police believed that the group was part of a smuggling operation from the north because they were found with twenty-two parcels of compressed marijuana. While a motive has not been established for Sanker’s killing, police are looking at all angles.

“The police is following several leads with respect to that investigation. We have several persons in custody, who we are interviewing today; they were brought into custody today. So we will see where the investigation goes as a result of the interview with those persons.”

Duane Moody

“Sir has the investigation been able to determine what Mister Sanker was doing in Belmopan. We know that he is originally from Corozal but was living in Ladyville, but ended up somehow in Belmopan where he was killed. Anything as to what he was doing there?”

ACP Joseph Myvett
“No, at this point in time we do not know, but we know that he was in Belmopan previously about a month ago he was in Belmopan.

“Sir, are you able to say…there are reports that he had two broken legs which were broken some time ago when he was fleeing from pursuing police mobile. Do you know anything about that?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“I believe yes, he is the same person who was involved in a road traffic accident just outside Sand Hill Village; I believe it was earlier this year or late last year that that accident had occurred.”
