Did PC Ferguson Had Prior Domestic Abuse Charges?
PC Steven Ferguson was a member of the Quick Response Team which is why he had a service issued pistol in his possession on Wednesday night. He was a member of the force for several years and had been transferred to the Punta Gorda police station recently. He relocated to Punta Gorda along with his common-law wife Josephine Hamilton and their children in June of this year. And as a member of the Quick Response Team, Ferguson is called out on duty at any time of the day or night. That uncertain schedule can put pressure on a relationship, pressure which in no way should be used as an excuse for what happened on Wednesday night. But according to ACP Joseph Myvett, the department offers counseling for police officers who are going through troubling times.
ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch
“It’s an area that has been looked at for some time now and there are certain cases where depending on the formation commander who interacts with his personnel, he would determine whether or not based on the situation that they would need counseling but of course there are some police officers are on mandatory counseling on some areas.”

“Has he ever been brought up on charges for any type of spousal abuse or domestic abuse?”
ACP Joseph Myvett
“Not that I am aware of. I’ll have to research that. He is a member of the Quick Response Team and they work different shifts as well as they are called out upon any time to response hence the reason for him being in possession of the weapon.”
