Toledo West Roads Are Difficult to Traverse
Area Representative for Toledo West Oscar Requeña also spoke on the state of public roads in his constituency. It’s a topic that Requeña speaks on during the adjournment of every Sitting of the House of Representatives. He did so on Friday, calling out the Prime Minister for not making good on his promise, a promise he made two years ago. The promise P.M. Barrow made was to build a by-pass at the San Jose/ Santa Cruz junction.

“The buses coming out of Dolores, in fact, we can’t get buses to go into Dolores. The school buses cannot go because the roads are so bad. The public buses coming out from San Benito Poite are getting stuck on the road. Public buses coming out of San Vicente cannot get out to the highway because of the same problem. Buses coming out of Barranco are having the same problem. The roads are in such a deteriorated condition Madam Speaker that pretty soon certain areas of our district are going to be cut off. They are going to be blocked off from the main populated area or the main town which is Punta Gorda. In March of 2017, the Honorable Prime Minister promised in this National Assembly, he got up and said that the people of San Jose and Santa Cruz were going to get their by-pass completed. Madam Speaker, March 2017 and you know that today we are in November of 2018. It is going to be two years, March 2019 and the by-pass has been not been completed from San Jose to Santa Cruz. It is a shame Madam Speaker.”
Patrick Faber, Area Representative for Collet
“The member from Toledo West is as much as he twisted things, is correct. The road conditions in these parts of the country and other parts of the country are bad. You can’t twist that any kind of way to make it any other thing. These road conditions are bad. It is one of the reasons; my friend that I took to the tour in September and these were some of the conditions. You were with me. You heard the people say and for what it is worth, he is correct these roads do need the attention. He is talking about the promise made by the Prime Minister for the y-pass from San Jose to Santa Cruz. You are right, that is something that ought to be corrected. I promise the people when they made that point to me that in fact yes it was promised by our Prime Minister in the honorable house and I will raise it in Cabinet. I thank him for raising it but his problem is that he comes here, very much like my friend from Cayo South, who comes here, quarreling with the government instead of making the point to the government; let us work together.”
