Marta Gonzalez Was Stabbed Before Being Dumped in Pit Latrine
The cause of death of an elderly food vendor whose body was found inside a latrine has been released though the motive for her murder has not been confirmed. A post-mortem examination conducted on the body of sixty-eight-year-old Martha Gonzalez on Tuesday revealed that she was fatally stabbed. According to the results, Gonzalez was stabbed once to the chest. Her body was found on Monday, inside a pit latrine in Pomona village where she was last seen alive on Friday afternoon. Gonzalez was originally from San Felipe Village in the Orange Walk District and had been, for decades, selling cheese, clothing, and tamales in Pomona and surrounding villages in the south. She left her home early on Friday morning and arrived in Pomona at around ten o’clock. She visited her longtime friend, Silva Ramirez, and left some of her merchandise with Ramirez. Gonzalez was seen at around three o’clock in the afternoon by another friend with whom she left a bucket and two rolls of cheese. According to Gonzalez’s son, Isaias Ixpec, his mother was on her way to collect from a man in the village before being murdered.
On the Phone: Isaias Ixpec, Son of Deceased
“We went to check the things for the bag, the bag and stuff like that and we recognized that it was for my mom. And the land lady, the neighbor where the body was found, told me that my mom left a bucket with two cheese. The lady said my mom told her that she would cross the street and collect some money there because people owed her money. From there she did not come back. That happened at around three o’clock in the afternoon.”

“The post-mortem results revealed that she was stabbed once to the chest, do you have any information or idea who would want to hurt your mother and why?”
On the Phone: Isaias Ixpec
“I think they did not want to pay maybe. Maybe they did not want to pay what they owe. Maybe she started to start to say, ‘eh!’. I don’t know but maybe the guy got mad and cut her right. I think so.”

“You believe that it was someone who owed her money that she went to collect, who did this to her?”
On the Phone: Isaias Ixpec
“Oh yes. Yes because a lot of people say that things don’t happen to her. This is the first time. I want that guy who did that, he has to pay for that.”
Police are looking for a suspect and according to Deputy ComPol Chester Williams, an arrest is imminent.
