“Tilliman” apologises for kicking teammate
His misbehaviour on the football field may not have reached constitutional proportions, but that did not make the actions of Norman “Tilliman” Nunez any less disgraceful. On Sunday at the MCC Grounds, he laid a flying kick on one of his own teammates, an assault which was captured for posterity by News 5’s Sports Monday. Today Tilliman visited our studios to ask the public’s forgiveness.

“Me and my team haven’t been getting along because I’ve been pushing them and they haven’t like the drive I’ve been driving them…I’ve been driving them too hard. We are working hard for championship and you have to have a hard drive. And me and the player had a little small talk in the field and I didn’t like the way he responds to me and I got carried away, something I’d never done before and I blew my cool in a certain way. But at the end of the day, I think I get my message across that I really win. But if it takes hurting my player to win, fighting my own player, it’s not something I really want to do.”

“What was the official reaction of team?”

“Well certainly my team lost a little bit of confidence in me that day and I lost a little bit of confidence in them also. They lost a lot of things, but at the end of the day I know that my team knows that what I did was wrong. But I’m very sorry, very sorry for what I did to Mr. Perez. This is something that should have never happened, it’s not something that should happen in the ball world, but things do happen. I’m not perfect and football play like that you always get into the heat of the moment but you have to control your cool sometimes.”

“Will there be any repercussions for your team from the league?”

“Well my team has put a serious sanction on me. They’ve sanctioned me for a game, charged me a fine, and with that I’m okay because that’s where football is. You have to be disciplined no matter how big you are.”
News 5 understands that tonight officials of the Belize Premier Football League will be meeting to discuss any further sanctions against Nunez and his football club. As for referee Victor Williams, it is uncertain whether his decision not to penalise Nunez during the game will also be called into question.
