Children’s Week kicks off with Family Fun Day
If you’re looking for something to do with the family this weekend, listen up. This Sunday, Children’s Week kicks off with the second annual Family Fun Day. Chairwoman of the event’s sub-committee, Carolyn Gentle Genitty, says that there will be a host of activities for both the young and the old to enjoy.
Carolyn Gentle Genitty, Chairwoman, Sub-committee
“To kick off the day, we actually thought we would have a fun-filled day where parents, children, family, could just sort of get involved. Because we know that throughout the week they may not be able to come to the different events, the youth forum, the essay competition, and different stuff that we will be having. So we thought that this may be the best time, best place, best opportunity for us to get everybody involved.”

“This is the second year that the event is taking place, what was it like last year?”
Carolyn Gentle Genitty
“Last year was great, we had no complaints, the weather was wonderful, a lot of people came out. We had estimated that approximately a thousand, almost two thousand people, children, families, relatives, cousins, nieces coming out and actually taking part in the different booths. And as you know, the booths varied from three-legged, sack race, lime and spoons, obstacle race, tug-o-war, domino, cards, colouring book and crayons. We could just go on and on in terms of the activities that we had with the support of the community, so we would encourage them to come out again, this year.”

“This will be for the entire day?”
Carolyn Gentle Genitty
“It would be pretty much for the entire day, beginning at 7:30 with a fun run, because we know health is important as well. So, from 7:30 beginning at the Pallotti juncture coming around the Princess Margaret Drive and ending at the B.T.L. Park, we will be having the fun run. And 11:00 we begin with the fun day activities, food will be on sale for those interested that want to come out for lunch, and the activities would go on from 11:00 till about 6:00. But between 4:00 and 6:00, we’re doing a special catering to the adolescents or the teenagers that might not want to play jaxs and ball or marbles. We have a teen concert where YAA will be performing. We have little competitions, poetry and singing and dancing.”
The fair, spearheaded by the National Committee for Families and Children, will take place at B.T.L. Park.
