Police make arrests in Lewis, Bennett murder cases
But while the P.M. is angry and businesses are frustrated, the police are working overtime to crack cases. Tonight, we can report that they have made arrests in two murders. According to police, twenty-one year old Clifford Hyde and a sixteen-year-old minor have been charged with the murder of Derry Bennett. Hyde also faces charges of abetment to murder. Derry Bennett was hit by a fatal gunshot blast on the eighth of February after his attackers tried to burn down his house.
Police say they have also arrested two people believed to be involved with the death of Deon Lewis. Twenty-six year old Sandy Smart of a Faber’s Road address in Belize City is charged with the crimes of murder and aggravated assault, while his brother Jermaine Smart is charged with two counts of aggravated assault against two men who were with Lewis when he was attacked. Lewis was gunned down on the twenty-ninth of January while on his way to buy clothes to attend the funeral of his friend Anthony Adderley.
