Man beaten to death in Caye Caulker

A Santa Elena man is dead after being beaten several times in the head with a steel bar. He is twenty-seven year old Jose Nelson Hernandez. Around 2:30 this morning, Byron Castellanos and Hernandez were at home in Caye Caulker sleeping, when two other apparently drunken men came to the house. Castellanos told police that one of the men, Carlos Campos, turned on the radio loudly and the noise woke Hernandez who was sleeping on the floor. According to Castellanos, when Campos saw Hernandez he asked if he remembered him. Campos then went outside, grabbed a steel bar and started to lash Hernandez repeatedly in the head and chest. He later died on arrival at the Caye Caulker Health Centre. Police have detained Carlos Campos pending murder charges.
