Mayor’s wedding list longer than pandemic matrix allows

Story PictureMayor Zenaida Moya and Troy Flowers known as “Dalla” are exchanging vows this evening at the Princess Hotel in Belize City. Word of the wedding is causing a stir not only because the Mayor is tying the knot with her long time partner; it also has to do with the size of the wedding. And that is because the Ministry of Health has published a matrix on mass gatherings in light of the outbreak of the H-One N-One flu. According to the Ministry, a mass gathering involves more than two hundred persons, lasts for more than two hours, with persons from different geographic areas and where alcohol is served. These events are being strongly discouraged and many have been cancelled. Two hundred and seventy-five persons have been invited to Moya’s wedding and it is expected that the joyous occasion will last more than two hours. The guest list is extensive and we are told it includes Dr. Michael Pitts, the Director of Health Services, who hopefully will keep watch over the gathering. Information to News Five earlier today is that a discussion was to be held with the Mayor on the potential risk involved, but from what we also know, the wedding will proceed as planned.
