Fire Destroys Palapa at BTL Park
A small fire destroyed a thatch cover at B.T.L. Park on Saturday night. According to police, someone may have left a lit cigarette under a palapa adjacent to Pier One Bar and Grill. The fire department promptly dispatched a team of firemen who doused the flames. Police say the fire was not caused by an accelerant.

“On Saturday night, just before midnight, police were called to BTL park located on Newtown Barracks whereupon arrival they observed one of the palapas engulfed in in fire. As a result, fire department personnel arrived and they extinguished the palapa. Only the thatch roof was destroyed and what police have gathered so far is that just minutes earlier, there was a group of male persons that were seen under the palapa drinking and it is suspected that probably one of them might have left a cigarette butt or something on the palapa which ignited the palapa. So far it was checked and there was no sign of an accelerant that was used.”
